Crunch Upended by Rochester

Rochester, NY (October 25, 2009) – The Syracuse Crunch were shut out by the Rochester Americans tonight, 3-0, at the Blue Cross Arena.

After letting a 2-0 lead slip away in a 3-2 overtime loss to Rochester last night at the War Memorial at Oncenter, the Crunch came out looking to secure their first road win of the season and first win of the year against the Amerks.

Unlike last night, it was Rochester who got on the board first with a goal from Graham Mink just under three minutes into the game.

After the Crunch turned the puck over in their own zone, Chris Taylor poked the puck to Mink, who was all alone down low. Mink made a nifty move and roofed a shot over the left shoulder of Crunch starter Kevin Lalande to make it 1-0.

The score remained at 1-0 until Rochester tallied again, this time early in the second stanza just under four minutes in on a power play after Brent Regner was assessed an interference penalty.

Former Crunch left wing Mike York put a shot on goal from the top of the left circle and Jamie Johnson was able to bury the rebound past Lalande for his second goal of the season and second in as many nights.

Rochester’s Shawn Matthias added another power play goal with 37 seconds left in regulation to make it 3-0, which is how the game ended.

Lalande made 37 saves on 39 shots in the losing effort.

CRUNCHABLES: Kevin Lalande played in his first game since October 10 vs. Adirondack…The Crunch have been outscored in the third period on the road this season by a 9-2 margin…Syracuse is one for its last 18 on the power play.
