Crunch Fall 3-2 to the Sharks Via a Shootout
Worcester, MA (January 15, 2012)
The Syracuse Crunch fell to the Worcester Sharks, 3-2, in a shootout at the DCU Center on Sunday. The Crunch now have points in their last four games and finished their seven-game road trip 4-2-1.
For the first time in three games, the Crunch scored first. J.F. Jacques found
Luca Caputi in front for a backhand shot high over the blocker of Tyson Sexsmith at 8:24 of the first period.
Mathieu Carle also assisted on the play.
Jack Combs tied the game at one with his sixth goal of the season with a spin-around shot with 9:45 remaining in the first period.
With
Matt Smaby exiting the penalty box, John McCarthy scored at the 2:00 mark of the second period to give Worcester a 2-1 advantage. The Sharks took a 2-1 lead into the third
In the third period,
Patrick Maroon fed
Peter Holland in front off of a 2-on-1 rush for a 2-2 score at 7:03.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams headed into a shootout. In the skills competition, Holland and Dan Sexton scored for the Crunch, but Worcester earned the victory with Brodie Reid's tally in round six.
The Crunch return home on Friday, January 20 to take on the Norfolk Admirals.
