Syracuse, NY (October 21, 2011) – Patrick Maroon scored 1:04 into the extra period to give the Crunch a 4-3 win over the Lake Erie Monsters, for their second consecutive home win.
Things got off to quick start Friday night at the War Memorial when just 21 seconds into the game
Kyle Palmieri scored his sixth goal of the season. Palmieri took a feed from center
Nick Bonino and then beat Lake Erie goalie Trevor Cann with a shot from the right side.
The Monsters struck back at the 4:50 mark when former Crunch defenseman David Liffiton beat Crunch goalie
Jeff Deslauriers with a shot from the high slot. He was assisted by Ben Wilson and Eric Hunter.
The Monsters went up 2-1 with a power play goal by Adrian Foster after Crunch left wing
Patrick Maroon was given two minutes for tripping. The power play goal, scored at the 7:33 mark was the Monsters first of the season.
The first period came to an end with the Monsters outshooting the Crunch 14-7.
Despite the score remaining 2-1 through the second period, the Crunch were able put heavy pressure on Cann, outshooting the Monsters 18-10.
Kyle Palmieri scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway to tie the game 2-2 with 12:16 remaining in regulation.
The Monsters took back their lead with 6:27 remaining in regulation with a goal by Lake Erie right wing Hugh Jessiman. Jessiman was assisted by Justin Mercier and former Crunch defenseman
Jake Newton.
The Crunch answered back quickly in the form of a
Patrick Maroon score with 5:54 remaining in the third period.
Unable to break the tie in regulation, it only took 1:04 of overtime for
Patrick Maroon to take advantage of a Crunch power play opportunity and give the Crunch a 4-3 win.
