Splitting the Start
The Crunch lost a 6-5 heartbreaker in a shootout to the Rochester Americans in the season opener last week. Syracuse trailed 4-1 in the second period, but scored four straight goals, capped off by a Tyler Johnson power-play tally to take the lead. Then, Marc Mancari tied the game 5-5 late in regulation and scored the game-winner in the fifth round of a shootout.

The following night, Syracuse got its first win of the 2012-13 campaign 4-3 over the Hershey Bears in front of a sold-out War Memorial Arena. The Crunch took a 2-0 lead thanks to tallies from Mike Angelidis and Tyler Johnson. After Hershey tied the game, Cory Conacher gave Syracuse the lead and Brett Connolly buried what would eventually be the game-winner.

League Honors
Reigning AHL MVP Cory Conacher has been picked as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the opening period, ending Oct. 14, 2012. Conacher had a three-point game, with a goal and two assists, against Rochester. The next night, he scored the go-ahead goal and added an assist in the Crunch's first win.

Three Times the Fun
The Crunch is playing three straight nights for the first time this season. The Crunch begin the three game swing in Albany on Oct. 19, will travel to Binghamton on Oct. 20 and finish the road trip in Wilkes-Barre on Oct. 21.

Devilish Start
The Albany Devils opened the season last Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs. They took a 1-0 lead on a Chad Wiseman goal in the first period, but gave up two goals in the opening frame to take the loss.
