Syracuse, NY (Feb. 26, 2012) -- The Crunch scored the game's final three goals but fell to the Adirondack Phantoms 4-3 tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Andrew Rowe scored his first of two goals, 5:28 into the game, by pushing a rebound past Crunch goaltender
Antero Niittymaki. Rowe's second goal came at the 12:41 mark of the period when Luke Pither won a faceoff back to Rowe and he blasted a shot past Niittymaki for a 2-0 lead.
Tye McGinn made it 3-0 with one-timer from the high slot at the15:34 mark of the first frame. After allowing three goals on 13 shots Niittymaki was replaced by
Iiro Tarkki.
Adirondack was awarded their first power play halfway through the second stanza when
Kyle Palmieri was whistled for holding. The Phantoms converted just 17 seconds into the man-advantage with a goal from Matthew Ford to extend their lead to 4-1.
Crunch right wing Palmieri was awarded a penalty shot at the 1:40 mark of the second period after being taken down on a breakaway. Palmieri converted on the penalty shot, beating rookie goaltender Brad Phillips to make it 4-1 Phantoms at the end of 40 minutes.
J.F. Jacques scored his 16
th goal of the season, a shorthanded tally, at the 6:26 mark of the final frame. Jacques stripped the puck from the Phantoms at the blue line, raced in alone and beat Phillips with a backhander to cut the Phantoms lead to 4-2.
Jacques scored again with just 65 seconds remaining in regulation to bring the Crunch within one of the Phantoms. Tarkki was pulled for an extra attacker but the Crunch couldn't come up with the equalizer and fell by the final score of 4-3.
