Syracuse, NY (March 17, 2012) – J.F. Jacques scored twice to help lift the Crunch over the Adirondack Phantoms by the score of 5-2 tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Five Crunch players had multi-point games and the Crunch improved their record to 29-27-4-4.
The Phantoms got on the board first with a power-play goal, capitalizing on a
Josh Brittain penalty. Denis Hamel deflected a Blake Kessel shot past Crunch netminder
Iiro Tarkki for the game's first score with eight minutes to play in the first period.
Jacques tied the game with his 18
th goal of the season with 4:53 remaining in the first frame. Jacques potted the goal by taking advantage of Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton misplaying the puck after a
Patrick Maroon shot.
The Crunch took a 2-1 lead early in the middle session with a five-on-three power-play goal by
Mathieu Carle. With Adirondack's Matthew Ford and Marc-Andre Bourdon in the penalty box, Carle blasted a shot from the right circle past Leighton at the 2:52 mark of the second period.
With 3:10 remaining in the second stanza Phantoms defenseman Bourdon scored a power-play goal to tie the game 2-2.
Jacques scored his second goal of the game to give the Crunch a 3-2 lead with just 33.5 seconds in the second period. Jacques one-timed the puck off a pass from
Peter Holland, into a wide open net.
The Crunch added an empty net power-play goal from
Riley Holzapfel with 45 seconds to play and a power-play goal from
Troy Bodie with 11 seconds remaining for the final score of 5-2.
