Crunch Fall to Devils 2-1 in a Shootout

2-1 Loss

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch fell to the Albany Devils 2-1 in a shootout tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
 
The loss drops the Crunch to an overall record of 9-4-1-1 and moves them to third in the East Division with 20 points. The Crunch are now 1-0-0-1 in the season series with the Devils.
 
Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced, while Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid saved 29 of 30.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Devils took the lead with a power-play goal on a shot from the blue line by Reece Scarlett with 2:05 left in the second. The Crunch responded with a goal by Nikita Kucherov 24 seconds later. Kucherov's shot deflected off the right post and found the back of the net on a breakaway pass from J.P. Cote. The goal tied the game and forced overtime after a scoreless third period.
 
Both teams failed to convert on two shots on goal during the overtime period.
 
Reid Boucher scored the game-winning goal for the Devils in the second round of the shootout. The Crunch were unable to convert on any of their attempts and fell to the Devils 2-1.
