Crunch edged by Sound Tigers

3-2 Loss

Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 in overtime tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Brock Nelson scored with 2:18 remaining in overtime to lift the Sound Tigers over the Crunch and drop their overall record to 40-21-6-5 and 16-11-4-3 at home. Syracuse continues to lead the East Division and holds the third spot in the Eastern Conference with 91 points.  

Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 31 of 34 shots in defeat. Bridgeport netminder Rick DiPietro stopped 28 of 30 shots.

Crunch right wing Dan Sexton opened the game's scoring at the 2:09 mark of the first period. Sexton deflected a Tanner Richard shot from the glove side of the crease that dribbled past DiPietro. Ondrej Palat also assisted on the goal, picking up his first of two points on the night.

Scott Campbell tied the game for the Sound Tigers at 7:25 of the first period. Matt Donovan passed to Campbell, who was able to backhand a shot past Desjardins.

The Crunch retook the lead with less than two minutes to go in the first period. Sexton's outlet pass sprung Palat who beat DiPietro on a partial breakaway. Matt Taormina picked up the secondary assist on the play.
Desjardins held the Crunch lead by stopping all 13 shots he faced in a scoreless second period. The Crunch managed only two shots on goal it the second, matching a season-low.

Sound Tigers left wing Nino Niederreiter capitalized on a power play following a Vladislav Namestnikov tripping penalty. The team's leading goal scorer tied the game, 2-2, at the 7:27 mark of the third period with his 27th.

 Neither team was able to break the stalemate until Nelson scored his 24the to win the game in overtime.
