Crunch stumble in 4-1 loss to Hershey

4-1 Loss

Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch were trumped by the Hershey Bears tonight 4-1 at the War Memorial.
 
Jon DiSalvatore scored the Crunch's lone goal as the club drops their overall record to 17-16-2-4 and brings the season series against the Bears to 2-1-0-1. The Crunch were unable to convert on any of their three power play opportunities while the penalty kill unit was able to shut down all five Hershey man advantages.
 
Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 21 of 24 shots in defeat, while Bears goaltender Philipp Grubauer was able to stop 29 of 30 shots. 
 
The Bears took an early lead at 6:53 of the first period. A pass from Hershey defender Tyson Strachan gave found an open Casey Wellman who to put the puck past Gudlevskis. Forward Brandon Segal was credited with the second assist.
 
Hershey increased their lead in the second period. Forward Nicolas Deschamps drove toward the net and made an easy pass across the crease to Wellman who netted his second goal of the night. The second assist went to defenseman David Kolomatis. Shortly thereafter at the 13:26 mark, center Matt Watkins grabbed the rebound of a Peter LeBlanc shot for a goal, bringing the score to 3-0 to end the second period. Kolomatis earned his second point of the game with the secondary assist.
 
The Crunch scored their only goal of the game 9:38 into the third when forward Jon DiSalvatore scored on a Brett Connolly rebound.
The Bears answered with an empty net goal at 17:27 from Watkins, with forwards Dane Byers and Ryan Potulny picking up the assists.
 
The Crunch travel to Hershey on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Bridgeport on Sunday, Jan 26 for their first three-in-three of the season.
