BINGHAMTON, N.Y. –
Connor Ingram and the Syracuse Crunch blanked the Binghamton Devils, 5-0, tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Matthew Peca opened scoring in the first period before the Crunch closed out the game with a four-goal third period.
Alexander Volkov put up back-to-back two goal games, while
Mitchell Stephens added two of his own. The win pushes Syracuse to 18-12-1-2 on the season and 2-1-0-0 in the 10-game season series against Binghamton.
Ingram stopped all 29 shots he faced for the second shutout of his rookie season. Mackenzie Blackwood turned aside 32-of-37 between the pipes for the Devils. Syracuse converted on 1-of-4 power play opportunities and went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Crunch opened scoring with 4:42 remaining in the first period.
Carter Verhaeghe stopped a clearing effort at the blue line and passed ahead to Peca. The center walked in down the right side and banked the puck off the goaltender and in from the bottom of the circle.
Syracuse put up four goals in the final frame to build a three-game winning streak. Just 2:25 into the frame, Stephens was parked at the left goal post to roof a loose rebound.
Dennis Yan and
Ben Thomas recorded the helpers. Four minutes later,
Anthony Cirelli and Volkov came in on a 2-on-1. Cirelli threw a feed across the slot for Volkov to one-time home.
Mat Bodie earned the secondary assist.
At the 14:22 mark, Volkov followed behind the play and jammed in a second-chance opportunity from the left side of the cage on the power play.
Michael Bournival and
Jamie McBain tallied points on the goal.
With 2:26 remaining in the third, Stephens potted his second of the game. Yan fired a shot off the crossbar that dropped down for Stephens to poke in behind Blackwood.
Daniel Walcott earned the secondary assist.
Syracuse is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 6 when they travel to face the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7 p.m.
