SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Crunch were edged by the Belleville Senators, 3-2, tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.

Noah Steen was first on the board for the Crunch before Nick Abruzzese potted a late third-period goal to round out the Crunch scoring. The loss puts Syracuse at 1-3-0-0 on the season.

Crunch goaltender Mads Sogaard turned aside 22-of-25 shots. Jonas Johansson earned the win stopping 30-of-32 shots in net for the Senators. The Syracuse power play was held scoreless on four opportunities, while the penalty kill shut down 4-of-5 Belleville man-advantages.

The Crunch opened scoring eight minutes into the game. Jarred Tinordi and Tristan Allard both fired shots that got stopped before Steen was able to jam the puck across the goal line.

Syracuse maintained their one-goal lead through the second period before Belleville evened the score two minutes into the third period. Kasper Halttunen grabbed the puck in the slot and wired a shot past Sogaard. Four minutes later, Ryan Suzuki stuffed the puck in as he came streaking towards the net on the power play. The Crunch responded and knotted the score, 2-2, at the 7:13 mark when Jakob Pelletier sent a stretch pass through the neutral zone for Abruzzese to score on a partial breakaway. With just 26 seconds remaining in the game, Xavier Bourgault forced a turnover down low and scored the eventual game-winner for Belleville on a close range shot.

The Crunch are back in action next Saturday when they host the Rochester Americans.
