Eric Veilleux joined the organization for the 2019-20 season after serving as head coach for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2018-19. In his one season in Halifax, Veilleux led the Mooseheads to a 49-15-2-2 record, good for 102 points, the second-best record in franchise history. He then brought the Mooseheads to the QMJHL President’s Cup Final and the 2019 Memorial Cup Final, losing to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Prior to his time in Halifax, Veilleux served as head coach of the San Antonio Rampage from 2016 to 2018. He was also head coach of the Norfolk Admirals in their inaugural season in the ECHL (2015-16) after joining the Admirals as an assistant in their final AHL season (2014-15).
He spent the previous nine seasons as a head coach in the QMJHL with Baie-Comeau and Shawinigan. In his two seasons with Baie-Comeau, he led the Drakkar to consecutive QMJHL President’s Cup Finals in 2012-13 and 2013-14, their first two appearances in the finals. He claimed the 2012 Memorial Cup championship with Shawinigan in his final season with the Cataractes. In his 10 seasons as head coach in the QMJHL, Veilleux holds a 396-223-22-27 record, making the playoffs all 10 years and finishing with a better than 0.500 record nine times. He has led his team to the finals four times and made two appearances in the Memorial Cup. He was named QMJHL and CHL Coach of the Year in 2013-14.
As a player, the Quebec City, Quebec native skated in 447 career AHL games with the Cornwall Aces, Hershey Bears, Kentucky Thoroughblades and Lowell Lock Monsters, totaling 280 points (106g, 174a). He won a Calder Cup with the Bears in 1997.
