Crunch Dominate Monsters in 7-0 Win

Crunch Win 7-0

Syracuse, NY (October 26, 2011) – Iiro Tarkki recorded a shutout in his first North American win and five different Crunch players scored as the Crunch dominated the Lake Erie Monsters 7-0 tonight at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Fourteen Crunch players recorded at least one point, and the Crunch penalty kill unit successfully killed nine Monster power plays en route to improving to 4-1-1-1 on the season.

Center Mark Bell scored his first goal as member of the Crunch to give the Crunch a  1-0 lead 5:06 into the first period. Bell deflected a Troy Bodie shot past Lake Erie goaltender Trevor Cann, with Nathan Smith picking up the second assist.

The Crunch picked up a power play goal courtesy of J.F. Jacques at the 8:57 mark of the first. With Monsters defenseman Tyson Barrie serving a tripping penalty Jacques lifted a backhand past Cann for his first goal of the season.  Dan Sexton and Nick Bonino were both awarded assists on the play.

The score remained 2-0 until Nick Bonino made it 3-0 on a breakaway with 3: 48 remaining in the second period. Mat Clark's outlet pass found Bonino one-on-one against Cann, who was able to make the initial stop but Bonino was able to score on his own rebound.

Just 1:18 later Rick Schofield put a Josh Brittain rebound past Cann to give the Crunch a 4-0 lead. The second assist went defenseman Brian O' Hanley who was signed to a professional tryout contract earlier today.

The Crunch's fifth goal was a power play tally from Sexton. Sexton beat Cann with a wrist shot assisted by Jacques and Mathieu Carle 4:29 into the third.

Bell scored his second goal of the game and the team's third power play goal of the game 6:36 into the third. With the Crunch leading 6-0 Cann was replaced by rookie goaltender James Reid.

Matt Kennedy picked up his first point of the season when he assisted Jacques' second goal of the game 12:08 into the third period.

The Crunch return home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the War Memorial on Friday, October 28.
