Preview

Game 31: Syracuse Crunch vs. St. John's IceCaps
7:30 p.m. at War Memorial Arena, Syracuse, N.Y.

St. John's makes its first visit to Syracuse since the opening round of the 2012 Calder Cup playoffs when the IceCaps defeated the Crunch four games to one. The IceCaps were then swept by the Norfolk Admirals, with Dustin Tokarski allowing just two goals in four games and Tyler Johnson posting a goal and four assists. The IceCaps are the former Manitoba Moose, relocating to Newfoundland last year when their parent club, the Atlanta Thrashers, moved to Winnipeg and reincarnated the Jets.

Where they stand
The IceCaps are 14-17-0-1 (29pts), last in the Atlantic Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference. Coming off a 6-3 loss in Hamilton Friday, St. John's has just three wins in its last 11 games. They have the 30th ranked offense at 2.34 goals per game, and allow 2.84 goals per match, the 16th best mark in the league. St. John's heads to Binghamton Sunday to cap an eight-game road trip.

Syracuse defeated Norfolk Friday, 4-2, in the first meeting of the year against each organization's former AHL affiliate. Dustin Tokarski earned his 12th win while the Crunch received goals from Mark Barberio, Alex Killorn, Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson. Syracuse stays atop the division, conference and league standings with 42 points and a 19-7-1-3 record, the only club with a points percentage at or above .700.

Scouting the Caps
Defensemen Derek Meech (3g-14a-17pts) and Zach Redmond (8g-8a-16pts) have been the Caps leading scorers, while Spencer Machacek has surged to 16 points (7g-9a) but has the league's worst plus-minus (-18). Eddie Pasquale suffered Friday's loss in Hamilton, allowing two goals on 26 shots after replacing Mark Dekanich who surrendered three goals in the first 13 minutes of the game. Pasquale is 7-11-1 with two shutouts and 2.50 goals-against average while Dekanich is 7-6-0 with a 2.80 goals-against average.
