Game 22: Syracuse Crunch at Adirondack Phantoms
7:00 p.m. at Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, N.Y.
The Crunch (14-5-1-1) take on the Phantoms (9-12-0-0) for the fourth time this year, leading the season series, 2-1. The Phantoms stunned the Crunch at the War Memorial Oct. 28 in overtime, 4-3, but Syracuse won 4-1 Nov. 2 in Glens Falls and 5-2 at home Nov. 17. Since that most recent meeting, Adirondack played six straight games at home, winning the first three and losing the last three, then visiting Rochester last night and losing 3-1. The Flyers' AHL affiliate has 18 points, fourth in the Northeast Division and 13th in the Eastern Conference. Syracuse's 30 points are tied for most in the Eastern Conference with Springfield and are two better than Binghamton in the East Division.

Scouting the Phantoms
Despite being held scoreless Friday, Brayden Schenn is the Phantoms' leading scorer; his 22 points (9g, 13a) in 21 games are tied for eighth most in the AHL and his 83 shots are tied for the league lead. In net, Cal Heeter suffered yesterday's loss to the Amerks and is now 3-7-0, while Scott Munroe is 6-5-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average. Zac Rinaldo has 62 penalty minutes and has the second-most minor penalties in the AHL (16). The Phantoms visit Providence Sunday.
Unmatched Scoring
With five goals scored in Friday's 5-1 win over Hamilton, the Crunch have now managed at least five goals in seven of their 21 games. No team in the AHL puts the puck in the net more often, with 79 total or 3.76 per game.
Tyler Johnson, the league's leading goal scorer accounts for 15 of those tallies, while
Ondrej Palat leads the AHL with a plus-17. The Crunch and the Oklahoma City Barons are the only teams with three players at 20 or more points: Johnson (25),
Richard Panik (20,
Cory Conacher (20).
Returning Impressions
Keith Aulie,
Brett Connolly and
Dmitry Korobov all returned to the lineup for Syracuse Friday. Aulie had missed 14 games (ankle) and was a plus-2 in the contest. Connolly (sternum) missed his first game of the season last Sunday, bouncing back with an assist and the game-winning goal Friday, his team-leading third game winner of the season.
Dmitry Korobov, who sat out for two games last weekend, assisted on Syracuse's fifth goal (from P.C. Labrie) and upped his plus-minus to plus-15, second best in the AHL.
Super Special Teams
The Crunch stopped all four of Hamilton's power plays Friday, improving their penalty kill rate to 89% (105-for-118). Only Abbottsford's 91.5% and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's 89.4% edge Syracuse. The Crunch also collected two power-play goals Friday, after not scoring with the man advantage in the prior two contests. Syracuse is 10th best in the AHL with a man up at 18.5%, but even better at home with 10 goals in 46 chances (21.7%) versus 10 goals on 67 chances on the road (16.1%).
