Syracuse Crunch Defeat St. John’s IceCaps 4-2

4-2 Win

Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch snapped a five-game losing streak tonight when they defeated the St. Johns IceCaps 4-2 at the War Memorial Arena.
 
Cedric Paquette scored the game-winning goal with 4:24 remaining in the third period to improve the Crunch to 10-7-1-1 on the season. Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 26 of 28 shots during the victory, while IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale stopped 33 of 36 in defeat.
 
Syracuse was able to convert on one of six power-play opportunities, The penalty kill unit allowed only one goal on four St. Johns man-advantages.
 
Making his Crunch debut, Ray Kaunisto gave the Crunch a 1-0 lead with 1:50 left in the first period. Kaunisto wrapped around to the right side of the goal and slid the puck past Pasquale. Max Parent and Eric Neilson were credited with the assists.
 
The Crunch extended their lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by Geoff Walker at the 12:10 mark of the second. Walker flipped a pass from Cedric Paquette into the back of the net. Dmitry Korobov was credited with the secondary assist.
 
The Crunch went into the second intermission tied 2-2 after the IceCaps responded with two goals in 23 seconds. Jason Jaffray scored on the man-advantage at the 13:52 mark and J.C. Lipon found the back of the net shortly after off a pass from Adam Lowry.
 
After Paquette's go-ahead goal the Crunch padded their lead with an empty net goal from Danick Gauthier for a final score of 4-2. It was Gauthier's first goal in six games.
 
The Crunch travel to face the Adirondack Phantoms tomorrow night.
 
Crunchables:  With assists on Ray Kaunisto's goal, Max Parent picks up his first career AHL point and Eric Neilson finds his first point of the season… Geoff Walker has goals in consecutive games …After scoring only two goals in their past three games the Crunch scored now have five goals in their last two contests ... With one assist tonight, Dmitry Korobov is now tied with Matt Taormina with eight assists, the most among Crunch defensemen.
