Crunch fall to Senators, 6-3, despite Paradis hat trick

BNG 6, SYR 3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Philippe Paradis netted a hat trick for the Crunch (10-7-3-0), but two multi-goal scorers for the Senators (8-8-2-1) were too much for Syracuse Friday at the War Memorial Arena in a 6-3 Binghamton win.

Shane Prince potted two third-period goals, including the game-winner for Binghamton, his seventh and eighth goals of the season. Derek Grant netted the insurance goal for the Senators, and David Dziurzynski put one in the empty net to close out the game.

After Cole Schneider scored two in the first period for Binghamton, Paradis recorded a natural hat trick in less than five minutes, scoring his first goal 30 seconds after the Senators took the two-goal lead.

Paradis brought out the hats on a penalty shot, drawn when the Crunch were shorthanded. He wound in from the left side, cut across in front of netminder Chris Driedger and flicked a backhand shot to the top corner of the net. He chased down a puck and got tripped in front of the net to draw the one-on-one battle with the goalie.

Paradis' hat trick is the first for Syracuse as a team this year and the second in his Crunch career. His last came in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals in a 7-0 win against W-B/Scranton.

The Crunch's last hat trick against the Senators also came in a loss. Brett Connolly netted three goals Jan. 18 in a 6-3 loss to Binghamton.

Paradis' first tally came as he and Yanni Gourde charged the net and Paradis sent a rebound home at the 11:10 mark of the first.

His second marker was set up by a Jake Dotchin outlet pass from the defensive zone that landed perfectly on the stick of Paradis. Tanner Richard recorded two assists for the Crunch, moving his season total to nine.

Kristers Gudlevskis was in the net for the Crunch and stopped 27 of 32 shots by the Senators in his fourth loss of the season. Driedger recorded his first win in his first AHL contest this sesaon. He stopped 25 of 28 Crunch shots.

The Crunch travel to Hershey Saturday for their second contest of the season against the Bears. Syracuse won a Nov. 14 matchup, 5-1.
