LAST TIME OUT
Â
The Crunch extended their winning streak to three games with a 5-3 win over the Utica Comets Wednesday at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Â
Conor Geekie and
Brendan Furry both scored twice to key the win. Geekie tied the game at one in the first period and Furry gave them a 2-1 lead, but the Comets leveled the game at two before the second period.
Â
Geekie converted a give-and-go in the second period to make it 3-2 at 7:19. Syracuse extended the lead when
Wojciech Stachowiak knocked home a rebound at 11:55 of the frame. Furry cashed in again in the third for a 5-2 lead.
Â
The Comets tallied a shorthanded goal in the final two minutes to make it a 5-3 final as the Crunch improved to 4-0-0-0 head-to-head this season.
Â
FURRY FEASTS IN UTICA
Â
Forward
Brendan Furry recorded his first career two-goal game in Wednesday's win against the Comets. The winger tallied once in the first period and once in the third and now has four goals and seven points in 18 games this season.
Â
The 27-year-old has 21 career AHL goals and 47 points in 139 games for the Crunch and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He signed a one-year contract with the Crunch as a free agent this summer.
Â
SCOUTING THE AMERICANS
Â
The Amerks suffered a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Monsters on Wednesday and have lost three of their last four games. They are 11-9-0-0 this season and are tied with Belleville for third place in the North Division with 22 points.Â
Â
Rochester home games have been higher scorer than Amerks road games. There have been 7.25 combined goals per game scored at Blue Cross Arena versus 6.00 combined goals during Rochester road games.
Â
Defenseman Zac Jones paces the Amerks with 17 points — all assists — in 16 games. Isak Rosen returned to the Amerks after a 10-game stint with Buffalo. He scored seven points (3g, 4a) with the Sabres and has 13 (5g, 8a) in nine games for Rochester.
Â
GEEKIE GOBBLES UP THE GOALS
Â
Conor Geekie busted out of a goal-scoring drought with his fourth career AHL multi-goal game. He scored goals in three of his first four games with the Crunch this season, but he had gone nine straight games without a tally before Wednesday.
Â
The 21-year-old has logged at least one point in 11 of his 14 games, and he has 16 points (5g, 11a) on the campaign.Â
Â
ROAD SUCCESS
Â
The Crunch are on their second three-game road winning streak of the season. Their first such string of road wins (Oct. 11-19) was ended with a loss in Rochester on Oct. 22.Â
Â
Syracuse is tied with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the most road wins in the AHL with eight. The Crunch are 8-3-0-0 on the road, and they average 3.82 goals per game. Wednesday's game at Utica began a stretch of five out of six on the road; their only home game in that span is tomorrow.
Â
SEVIGNY JOINS CRUNCH
Â
The Crunch added another defenseman to the mix by signing Vincent Sevigny to a PTO yesterday. The 24-year-old played six games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, playing to a plus-5 rating. He has skated in 97 career AHL games for Bridgeport, Laval and Lehigh Valley since 2022.
Â
The Quebec City native won a Kelly Cup with the Trois-Rivieres Lions last season.
