LAST TIME OUT

Five different goal scorers contributed, and Ryan Fanti made 18 saves in a 5-0 shutout win versus the Bridgeport Islanders Wednesday at Total Mortgage Arena.

Scott Sabourin — freshly down from a stint with Tampa Bay — opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period. The Crunch extended that advantage with second period goals by Mitchell Chaffee and Dylan Duke.

Syracuse stretched the lead to 5-0 with tallies from Lucas Mercuri and Max Groshev in the third period. Groshev finished with a game-high three points. Fanti earned his second shutout win to improve to 6-5-1 overall this season.

GROSHEV GRABS THE REINS

Defenseman Max Groshev matched a career high with three points (1g, 2a) in Wednesday's win against the Islanders. He set up what turned into the game-winning goal in the first period with a power-play point shot that got deflected in by Scott Sabourin.

He added an assist in the third period before scoring his first goal of the season on an end-to-end rush. It marked his third career three-point game and his second this season (also Nov. 5 vs. Rochester). Groshev's 11 points (1g, 10a) this season are tied with Declan Carlile for the most on the Crunch among defensemen.

SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK

The Wolf Pack have not played since Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Crunch in Syracuse. It was their third loss in the last four games and leaves Hartford with a 9-12-4-0 record entering tonight's game. The Wolf Pack are tied with Bridgeport for sixth place in the Atlantic Division.

Since that loss last week, the Wolf Pack and New York Rangers swapped forwards. New York recalled Brennan Othmann — who scored one of their two goals against the Crunch — and Gabe Perreault. They assigned Brett Berard and Jaroslav Chmelar to Hartford.

Spencer Martin was in net and allowed all seven goals — a high-water mark given up by the Wolf Pack this season. Dylan Garand has seen the bulk of action in the crease and is 5-6-2/2.73/.907 this season.

SOMETHING'S COOKING

The Crunch's line of Mitchell Chaffee, Brendan Furry and Wojciech Stachowiak teamed up on an important insurance goal in the second period. Furry set up Chaffee for his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0. All three players finished with a plus-2 rating in the win.

The trio has produced a goal in back-to-back games since being put together. Furry has points in three straight games for the first time this season and the third time in his AHL career.

RACKING UP THE MILES

The Crunch continue a stretch of six straight road games, which is the longest of the season for the team. The games will take place in five different cities with the lone two-game stay in one city taking place in Laval following the Christmas Break.

The Crunch snapped their four-game road losing streak (0-3-1-0) with their win in Bridgeport two nights ago. They are 9-6-1-0 on the road this season.

DIDN'T MISS A BEAT

Scott Sabourin returned from a week-long stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning and immediately got involved in the scoring for the Crunch. His first period power-play goal held up for his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season. Sabourin has five goals and seven points in 18 Crunch games this season.

The veteran skated in four games during this recall with the Bolts, and he added one assist. He has appeared in seven games for Tampa Bay this season with one goal and two assists.
