LAST TIME OUT
Â
The Crunch extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-1 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Sunday at the PPL Center.
Â
Dylan Duke opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 16:08 of the first period. It was his 23rd goal of the season and a league-leading 15th on the power play.
Â
Former Phantom
Brendan Furry cashed in for his 10th goal of the season midway through the second period. He has now matched his career high for goals in a single season.Â
Â
A shorthanded goal by the Phantoms with less than seven minutes to play in the third period cut into the Crunch's lead, but
Mitchell Chaffee delivered an empty-net goal to help close out the win.
Â
ROLLING ON THE ROAD
Â
The Crunch have found their footing on the road with three straight road victories. It's the third time this season they've won three straight road games.
Â
After starting the season with an 8-3-0-0 record through their first 11 road games, the Crunch went through a 3-9-2-1 funk from Nov. 28 to Jan. 31. Following their three-game winning streak, which started in Belleville on Feb. 7, the Crunch are 14-12-2-1 away from home this season. The Crunch have seven road games remaining, including tonight.Â
Â
SCOUTING THE SENATORS
Â
The Senators broke a three-game regulation losing streak with a matinee home win Monday against the Hershey Bears. They sit in sixth place in the North Division with 50 points through 51 games (21-22-8-0). They are four points out of a playoff spot in the division, and every team ahead of them have at least one game in hand.
Â
Leading scorer Arthur Kaliyev has been held off the scoresheet in three straight games. It's only the second time all season that he has not had a point in three consecutive games. Despite the drought, Kaliyev continues to lead the league with 29 goals and ranks third with 49 points. Â
Â
GEEKIE PUSHES STREAK TO SEVEN
Â
Conor Geekie extended his scoring streak to seven games — tied for the longest of his career — with four assists in two games last week. The center, who also represented the Crunch at the AHL All-Star Classic last week, has 10 points (2g, 8a) during his scoring streak which began Jan. 30.
Â
He notched his third career three-assist game Saturday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and added another helper Sunday at Lehigh Valley.
Â
The 21-year-old ranks second on the Crunch and is tied for eighth in the AHL with 45 points (13g, 32a) in 42 games. His 32 assists are the fourth-most in the league.Â
Â
Geekie has five points (1g, 4a) in four games versus Belleville this season.
Â
DUKE DELIVERS AGAIN
Â
Dylan Duke extended his team lead with two more goals in Week 19. The second-year-pro tipped home a pair of power-play goals for his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season. He took over the league-lead with 15 power-play goals, moving him within five of the Crunch's single-season franchise record (20, Reggie Savage).
Â
Duke leads all AHL players in goals scored since Dec. 12 with 15 tallies. He has 21 points (15g, 6a) in 25 games in that span.
Â
He has two goals and four points in five appearances against the Senators this season.
