Ken Klee joined the Syracuse Crunch as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season after spending two years as the head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, where he won two consecutive world championships in 2015 and 2016. With the Crunch, Klee works closely with the team’s defense and penalty kill. Under his guidance, the Crunch allowed fewer than 200 goals for only the second time in team history in 2017-18.
An Indianapolis, Indiana native, Klee skated in 934 NHL games over 14 seasons, the majority of which was spent with the Washington Capitals. The defenseman’s NHL career spanned from 1994 to 2009 and he accumulated 195 points (55g, 140a) with the Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, Atlanta Thrashers, Anaheim Ducks and Phoenix Coyotes.
In addition to his NHL experience, Klee played in 191 games in the American Hockey League for Baltimore Skipjacks and Portland Pirates. Klee was drafted by the Capitals in the ninth round, 177th overall, in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.
