Game 41: Syracuse Crunch vs. St. John's IceCaps

The Syracuse Crunch face the St. John's IceCaps for the second time this year Saturday at the War Memorial. The IceCaps won the first meeting, coming back from a 4-0 deficit to secure a 5-4 overtime win in Syracuse Dec. 29. Saturday is the second of four meetings this season, with the last two coming on back-to-back nights in Newfoundland March 8 and 9.

Where they stand
The IceCaps are 3-5-1-1 in their last ten games but have won three of their last four, including a 3-1 decision over Hershey Friday. With a record of 18-20-1-2 and 41 points on the season, St. John's is fifth in the Atlantic Division and 13th in the Eastern Conference. Only four teams in the AHL have fewer points than St. John's.
With a shootout loss Friday vs. Binghamton, the Crunch have lost four in a row for the first time this season and are two points the Senators for the East Division lead. Syracuse has the third best points percentage in the AHL (0.675) and is ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference--the strongest non-division leader.
Scouting Report
The leading scorers for the IceCaps are left wing Jason Jaffray (6g-17a-23pts), right wing Raymond Sawada (9g-11a-20pts) who had two points Friday, and right wing Spencer Machacek (9g-10a-19pts). In goal, the IceCaps are led by Eddie Pasquale and his 12-15-2 record along with a 2.55 goals-against average, three shutouts, and a .917 save percentage.
Riku Helenius got the start in goal for the Crunch in the only previous meeting with St. John's, allowing all five goals in the overtime loss.
Alex Killorn had a goal and an assist in that meeting to lead the Crunch while Ben Maxwell paced the Caps with two assists.
