Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch were edged 3-2 in a shootout by the Norfolk Admirals today at the War Memorial Arena.
Norfolk netminder Brad Thiessen stopped all four Crunch shooters in the skills competition as well as 36 of 34 shots faced in regulation and overtime. Goaltender
Allen York made his Syracuse Crunch debut, stopping 29 of 31 shots. Norfolk shooters Alex Grant and Emerson Etem scored during the tiebreaker.
The Crunch pick up a point but their overall record falls to 17-20-2-5 and 7-9-0-2 at the War Memorial.
The Crunch penalty kill stopped six Norfolk power-play chances, but the Syracuse's power play was unable to score on it's two opportunities.
Jon DiSalvatore opened the scoring with this fourth goal of the season 10:20 into the first period. DiSalvatore scored off a cross-crease pass from
Dana Tyrell.
Mike Angelidis recorded the secondary assist.
The Admirals tied the game halfway through the middle frame when a shot from the left side by Norm Ezekiel trickled through York and over the goal line. Norfolk took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Steve Eminger with 4:21 to play in the second period. Eminger beat York with a shot from the left point just seconds after a
Brett Connolly tripping penalty expired.
Tyrell evened the score 2:05 into the third period. Tyrell scored on a breakaway while the Crunch were shorthanded, due to a boarding major on
Cedric Paquette.
The Crunch outshot the Norfolk Admirals 8-2 in overtime but were unable to find the go-ahead goal, forcing a shootout.
