Crunch edged by Admirals 2-1

2-1 loss

Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch dropped a 2-1 decision to the Norfolk Admirals tonight at the Norfolk Scope.

After falling to the Admirals for the second time in as many nights the Crunch have lost four in a row and are now 18-23-3-5 overall and 11-13-2-2 away from the War Memorial. The Admirals win the season series against the Crunch 6-2-0-0.

Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins allowed two goals on 27 shots in defeat while his Norfolk counterpart John Gibson stopped 28 of 29 shots faced. Syracuse had seven power-play opportunities and converted on one while the Admirals power-play unit was one-for-six.

Norfolk center Chris Wagner opened the scoring with a shorthanded breakaway 3:08 into the first period. Wagner found himself one-on-one with Desjardins just 13 seconds into a Syracuse Crunch power play. The Admirals took a 2-0 lead by capitalizing on their own power play at the 12:56 mark of the first period. Emerson Etem put a loose puck into the back of the net after Desjardins couldn't cover a Devante Smith-Pelly shot.

After a scoreless second period Dmitry Korobov put the Crunch on the board with his second goal of the season at the 11:33 mark of the third period. Korobov's shot from the blue line found its way past a screened Gibson to cut the Admirals lead to 2-1. Assists went to Cedric Paquette and Joey Mormina.

The Crunch will host the Utica Comets on Friday, Feb. 21 for the Comet's first-ever visit to the War Memorial.
