The 22-year-old forward from Switzerland scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season against the Crunch, including the game-winner in overtime. He played 12 games for the Habs last year (2g, 1a) and combined for 87 points in his first two AHL seasons (124 games) with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
With Montreal goalie Carey Price returning from injury, Dustin Tokarski was reassigned to the IceCaps Thursday night. He did not dress Friday vs. Syracuse, but the one-time Crunch goalie is expected to start tonight. Friday's starter Eddie Pasquale was loaned to ECHL-Brampton after his 44-save performance Friday vs. Syracuse.
Last time outEddie Pasquale, an original IceCap, celebrated his 25th birthday Friday by playing his first game at Mile One Centre in almost two years.. His icing on the cake an overtime victory and 44 saves, the second highest total in his 155 career AHL games (regular season and playoffs). The Crunch fired a season-best 47 shots on net, including 21 in the third period--the same total produced in 60 minutes Wednesday vs. Portland. Only bids from
Henri Ikonen,
Tye McGinn and
Yanni Gourde found their way in.
After a scoreless first, Sven Andrighetto and Stefan Fournier put St. John's ahead. Ikonen's first of the year, with assists to
David Broll and
Slater Koekkoek, got the Crunch within one late in the second. Rookie
Daniel Walcott, a defenseman playing as a forward, collected his first professional point with the lone assist on
Tye McGinn's game-tying score in the third. With under seven minutes to play Mark MacMillan stole the puck in the Crunch end and set up Jeremy Gregoire for a 3-2 IceCaps lead. The Crunch again pulled even three minutes later with a power-play goal, their first on the road this year, with
Anthony DeAngelo and
Dylan Blujus setting up Gourde.
Adam Wilcox saved his best work for overtime, denying Bud Holloway with a right-toe stop at close range. But seconds after that chance, and a Pasquale blocker save for St. John's, a 2-on-1 breakaway for the Caps decided the contest as Mark Barberio recorded his second assist of the game, setting up Andrighetto's score 50 seconds into the extra frame.
Overtime breakdown
Friday's game was the third to require extra time for Syracuse this year, while it was the IceCaps' third in a row and sixth overall.
